Hluboká Castle, located in Hluboká nad Vltavou, is a historic château renowned as one of the most beautiful and frequently visited castles in the Czech Republic. In 2019, it attracted 293,000 visitors, making it the third most visited castle in the country. The castle’s origins trace back to the second half of the 13th century when a Gothic structure was first erected on the site.

Throughout its history, Hluboká Castle has undergone several significant transformations. During the Renaissance period, it was expanded, and in the early 18th century, Adam Franz von Schwarzenberg ordered its reconstruction into a Baroque castle. The most notable transformation occurred in the 19th century when Johann Adolf II von Schwarzenberg remodeled the castle in the romantic style of England’s Windsor Castle, giving it its current appearance.

The Schwarzenberg family acquired the castle in 1661 and retained ownership until 1939. The last owner, Adolph Schwarzenberg, emigrated to escape the Nazis, and the family lost their Czech properties through the Lex Schwarzenberg Act in 1947. Today, Hluboká Castle is a National Cultural Monument of the Czech Republic, celebrated for its historical significance and architectural beauty.
